When it's an emergency

Go to a 24-hour animal ER right away for:

Trouble breathing, choking or pale or blue gums
Collapse, seizures or inability to stand
A swollen, hard belly or unproductive retching, especially in large dogs
Eating something toxic: chocolate, grapes or raisins, xylitol gum, rat poison, medications, or lilies for cats
Hit by a car, a deep wound or bleeding that won't stop
A toad or snake encounter. Cane toads are common in South Florida; wipe your dog's gums with a damp cloth and head to the ER.
Heatstroke signs in Florida summers: heavy panting, drooling, weakness

Call ahead while you're driving so the team can prepare, and bring any packaging if your pet ate something.

More after-hours help: late-night pharmacies, emergency dentists and hospitals and urgent care in Wellington.
