Who is behind Wingrove Academy?

The school is being developed by ElevateED, an education management organization founded by Karen Yung. Yung is a co-founder of Education in Motion, an international school group that has opened private schools in cities including London, Singapore and Bali. Wingrove is ElevateED's first project and is planned as its flagship school.

The school is also backed by Stephen Ross, whose company Related Ross is building the Village Landing town center on the front portion of the same property. In a statement, Ross tied the school to Palm Beach County's ability to attract growing businesses and families.

Where did the name come from?

For much of 2025, planning documents referred to the project with the placeholder "New School in Wellington." The official name, Wingrove Academy, was announced on August 18, 2025, along with the school's mission of combining rigorous academics with visual and performing arts, competitive athletics and whole-child development on a purpose-built, sustainable campus.

When does Wingrove Academy open?

The current timetable calls for the first phase of the school to open in August 2028, around the same time Village Landing is expected to open next door. Reports have indicated the high school program will follow, with a first high school class planned for 2029. A national search for a founding head of school has been led by education search firm RG175.

How much will tuition cost?

Tuition has not been announced. Early reporting said tuition is expected to be competitive with other independent schools in the area, where top schools can exceed $40,000 a year. We will update this page as soon as Wingrove publishes official tuition figures.

Scholarships for Wellington residents

Scholarships became a major topic at Village Council meetings, with council and education committee members pushing for clear commitments to local students. In February 2026, ElevateED returned with specifics: about $10 million in need-based scholarships aimed at roughly 100 Wellington students. To qualify, a student must:

  • Live in Wellington at the time of application
  • Meet the school's admission standards
  • Demonstrate financial need

Earlier presentations also described a founders scholarship program equal to 20 full scholarships per year for the school's first five years.

Why Wellington?

School organizers have pointed out that hundreds of Wellington students already attend private schools outside the village, and some families spend hours a day commuting. Organizers estimated that 400 to 500 Wellington students currently attend private schools elsewhere, and the school expects to draw students from across the region as well. Early descriptions of the curriculum also mentioned flexible pathways for students pursuing serious commitments outside the classroom, which in Wellington often means equestrian sport.

Campus access and traffic

The school will sit on the north and back side of the K-Park land. As part of the approvals, a new roundabout is planned on the north side of the property to serve as the school's entrance, along with lane additions around Stribling Way, State Road 7 and the Fairlane Farms Road roundabout. Developers have said these road improvements need to be finished before the site opens. You can read more about the traffic plan in our Village Landing guide.

Our take

For Wellington families, a full PreK through 12 independent school inside the village is a genuine new option, and the local scholarship commitment is meaningful. The open questions are tuition, admissions details and how traffic on Stribling Way holds up once both the school and Village Landing are running. We will keep this guide updated as Wingrove shares more.
