What happened to LA Fitness Wellington?
The Palm Beach Post reported in August 2026 that the roughly 35,000-square-foot LA Fitness on the edge of The Mall at Wellington Green would close September 1, 2026. The company didn't announce a reason, but Wellington planning director Tim Stillings confirmed that Fitness International plans to reopen the building as a Club Studio. The move is part of a wider shift: Fitness International has been closing or converting some LA Fitness locations around South Florida, including near Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Stuart and Fort Lauderdale, as it pushes into higher-end clubs.
What is Club Studio?
Club Studio is Fitness International's premium brand, built around boutique-style classes and recovery rather than rows of machines. Its first Florida club opened at Miami Worldcenter in late 2025. Based on that 38,000-square-foot flagship, a Club Studio typically includes:
- Boutique studios: a HIIT-style strength class (CS4), boxing, indoor cycling, heated yoga and reformer Pilates
- Recovery: whole-body and localized cryotherapy, massage beds, compression and percussion therapy
- Upscale extras: towel service, personal training, a medspa, a healthy cafe and market, and a retail shop
The Wellington club's exact layout, amenities and pricing haven't been announced, so features may differ. Expect membership to cost more than LA Fitness.
